audio-technica ATH-DSR7BT Description

The DSR7BT is paving the way with its revolutionary Pure Digital Drive technology, elevating Wireless High Definition audio like never before. This new technology and reasonable price pushes the DSR7 into the top leagues of Over-Ear Bluetooth / Wireless Hi-Fi headphones.

The DSR7BT is the younger brother of the highly anticipated DSR9BT. Some say however that the DSR7 sounds better and more tight than its older brother. Given the price difference, this makes the DSR7 seem a rather appealing option for true audio enthusiast.

DSR7BT Pure Digital Drive Technology

DSR7BT Pure Digital Drive Technology

The DSR7 is one of the first headphones of the audio-technica range to include the newly founded Pure Digital Drive technology. This technology may well pave the way for premium headphones going forward, so its defiantly something to look out for!

How does Pure Digital Drive Technology Work?

Let's start off by saying that the DSR7BT doesn't have any traditional analogue headphone jack. Why I hear you ask - because they simply don't work this way.

As illustrated above, the digital signal goes from your source straight to their True Motion D/A Drivers, so the signal stays digital until right up until the end point of sound creation. This eliminates the need for a traditional DAC (Digital To Analogue Converter). The newly created diaphragms are extremely light, allowing them to move freely for optimum performance. The result? A much more precise and accurate movement from the diaphragm, which results in a cleaner, more crisp and responsive audio reproduction.

Often you find that on board Digital to Analogue Converters (DACs) muddy the sound, where as the Pure Digital Drive keeps the signal pure, right up until conception.

High Definition Audio Via Revolutionary 45mm Driver

The DSR7 can be used in two ways. Via USB or via Bluetooth aptX HD or standard Bluetooth / aptX.

If you run via USB, you will get an astonishing 24-bit/96kHz audio, and an impressive 24-bit/48kHz via the wireless aptX HD. That being said they are also backwards compatible with previous generations of Bluetooth, so you will still be able to use them accordingly.

That being said, the DSR7BT's aren't just about beating the next numbers. A great deal of consideration has been taken into the design of the drivers and surrounding components to ensure minimum distortion and interference. As a result they sound truly awesome. I have heard people say that they sound very balanced and extremely true to the original recording of the music. That being said they aren't clinical. Quite the opposite, they engage you with all the intricacies of the music that you're playing, making you question if you had ever heard that sound in the song before.

audio-technica ATH-DSR7BT Professional Reviews

Please note that professional reviews for headphones are much more varied than traditional Hi-Fi. With Bookshelf Speakers and the likes, it's quite often to get 5 stars straight across the board. With Headphones, it's very rare that everyone agrees on the quality of the product, therefore straight 5 star reviews are very rare. Critically acclaimed headphones will generally average around 4 stars regardless of performance, so don't be put off by this.

That being said, we always prefer to show each review where possible, even if the review isn't so flattering. It is after all a very subjective opinion as everyone has different hearing abilities and preferred styles. Think of it like wine, you can buy a £100 bottle, but prefer a £6. At the end of the day it's down to taste and taste alone.

Let us know if you find any good professional reviews and we will add them to the site!
