The Byron BT is a Bluetooth/ Wireless variant of the critically acclaimed beyerdynamic Byron in-ear headphone.
Beyerdynamic traditionally sits within the over-ear, wired headphones, however due to popular demand, they have now ventured into the wireless market. The result? A revolutionary in-ear, wireless headphone.
Despite the fact that they are in-ear, these headphones produces a very wide range of frequencies, and produce a very large sound stage. Beyerdynamic are very well known for world class audio reproduction and it's great to see them producing such a fantastic product for a reasonable price.
Highs have great detail, mids are defined and the bass is tight, controlled and rhythmic. Although they are slightly sonically different to the standard Byron, they still maintain the core class leading sound.
Given that the headphones are connecting via Bluetooth, you don't have to worry about the poor quality of your headphone out from your mobile or laptop. Instead, the audio is transmitted digitally to the headphones via Bluetooth. The headphones then convert this from digital to analogue. So when you buy these headphones, consider that your buying not just headphones, but an amp and DAC (Digital to Analogue Converter) combined!
The speaker cable itself is very thin, and the headphones as a whole are very light. This makes them a great companion when on the move.
The cable joins the two buds together with the Microphone and remote running in-line.
Unlike the standard Byron, the BT variant has aluminium styling. This provides extra strength, and is aesthetically very pleasing. When not in use, the magnets inside the headphones cause the headphones to stick together. This reduces the chances of them falling off, and looks quite cool in the process!
In the box you receive four pairs of tips and a soft pouch for transit.
The high performance, light battery boasts 7.5 hours listening time. This is quite outstanding given the weight and size of the headphones!
When active, the headphones will inform you via voice when the battery is low. USB cable is provided to charge the headphones, and full recharge is achieved in 2 hours.
Connectivity wise, it doesn't have NFC/ Bluetooth 4.2, but instead maintains the Bluetooth 4.1. This will connect with most phones and the likes.
The important thing is that it has the aptX support. This is very important as it improves the transmission of data from your device to the headphones. The result being, higher quality audio transmission from a greater distance.
This connectivity also means you can take calls from your phone and listen/ speak through the headphones/ microphone. The three button remote means you can access phone calls without touching your phone.
Beyerdynamic recognises that quite a number of people will be using the Byron BT for exercise, communing or simply walking around the home. As a result, they have included some ear hooks to help keep the ear buds in your ears, please see the image above for an example.

Please note that professional reviews for headphones are much more varied than traditional Hi-Fi. With Bookshelf Speakers and the likes, it's quite often to get 5 stars straight across the board. With Headphones, it's very rare that everyone agrees on the quality of the product, therefore straight 5 star reviews are very rare. Critically acclaimed headphones will generally average around 4 stars regardless of performance, so don't be put off by this.
That being said, we always prefer to show each review where possible, even if the review isn't so flattering. It is after all a very subjective opinion as everyone has different hearing abilities and preferred styles. Think of it like wine, you can buy a £100 bottle, but prefer a £6. At the end of the day it's down to taste and taste alone.
Let us know if you find any good professional reviews and we will add them to the site!
Fine headphones, but they need a better balance to gain the full five stars
Beyerdynamic's Custom Street headphones seem like they're trying to do too much, but are saved by solid, customizable audio performance.
