audio-technica ATH-DSR9BT Description

The DSR9BT is one of audio-technica's key products, providing high quality listening with wireless functionality.

This isn't your average wireless headphone. Great amounts of detail and technology have been poured into this DSR project. Regardless of the technology, it's safe to say that the ATH-DSR9BT is one of the best wireless headphones out there, so keep this headphone in mind when looking around.

Pure Digital Drive™ / Wireless Headphone Technology

Pure Digital Drive / Wireless Headphone Technology

The DSR9BT is the first audio-technica headphone to introduce the Pure Digital Drive™ technology. This technology doesn't work like most on the market, and could quite easily set the benchmark for premium headphones going forward.

In essence the signal is communicated via Bluetooth but stays in digital format right up until it hits the driver. The driver then converts this signal straight into audible energy. This removes the need for a DAC (digital to analogue converter) and additional hardware getting between the source and the listener. The result? Less distortion/ colouration and more clarity/ transparency.

DSR9BT Connectivity and Features

DSR9BT Connectivity and Features

The primary use for the headphones is wireless use, because with wireless you are granted access to 24-bit/48kHz high definition audio. However, if your run out of battery you can connect the headphones with a USB (type B) cable and listen that way.

Key Features

  • 24-bit/48kHz when connected wirelessly
  • 24-bit/96kHz when connected with USB wire (USB type B)
  • Bluetooth 4.2 supports aptX HD, aptX, AAC and SBC codecs
  • Touch control and volume switch for managing music playback and calls
  • Microphone for calls/ note making/ smart phone activation etc
  • Aluminium sliders for strength, build quality, adaptability, weight reduction and style
  • Est 15 hours continuous play time
  • Hard carrying case

Please note that the headphones do not have traditional headphone jack inputs, due to their revolutionary Pure Digital Drive™ technology the need for this old technology is defunct. Wired connection is possible, however it will have to be via the USB type B connection (running at 24-bit/96kHz). Having said that, their unique wireless technology allows you to listen at 24-bit/48kHz, therefore you only really want to be listening on wireless anyway!

audio-technica ATH-DSR9BT Professional Reviews

Please note that professional reviews for headphones are much more varied than traditional Hi-Fi. With Bookshelf Speakers and the likes, it's quite often to get 5 stars straight across the board. With Headphones, it's very rare that everyone agrees on the quality of the product, therefore straight 5 star reviews are very rare. Critically acclaimed headphones will generally average around 4 stars regardless of performance, so don't be put off by this.

That being said, we always prefer to show each review where possible, even if the review isn't so flattering. It is after all a very subjective opinion as everyone has different hearing abilities and preferred styles. Think of it like wine, you can buy a £100 bottle, but prefer a £6. At the end of the day it's down to taste and taste alone.

Let us know if you find any good professional reviews and we will add them to the site!
