The A550Z is sonically balanced pair of Over-Ear, Open-Back headphones which deliver beyond their price bracket.
Containing technology from its other brothers, the A500Z's extends throughout the frequency ranges whilst ensuring that the music stays true to its recording.
As mentioned before, the A550Z is driven by a massive 53mm driver which is supported by the D.A.D.S (Double Air Damping System). The technologies behind these two significant features allow the headphones to delve deep into the lower frequencies, yet allow the headphones to stay in control across the frequency range.
Mids and highs really extend without them becoming too harsh, or intrusive and bass is deep yet tight. As a whole they manage to keep their composure, without being boring in the slightest.
Also mentioned before, these headphones have a very balanced sound. This therefore allows them to play a wide range of music without favouring one genre over the other. This is great for people with extensive music tastes.
As is with many audio-technica headphones, the ATH-A550Z are designed for epic listening sessions. The '3D Wing Support' ensures the headphones fit all head types with minimum discomfort and maximum support.
The ear pads are also quite large, so they will fit regardless of ear size.
The Closed-Back design ensures a good amount of outside isolation and ensures not too much sound leaks from the cans. This combined with the comfortable '3D Wing Support' allows you to session the headphones almost endlessly without disruption.

Please note that professional reviews for headphones are much more varied than traditional Hi-Fi. With Bookshelf Speakers and the likes, it's quite often to get 5 stars straight across the board. With Headphones, it's very rare that everyone agrees on the quality of the product, therefore straight 5 star reviews are very rare. Critically acclaimed headphones will generally average around 4 stars regardless of performance, so don't be put off by this.
That being said, we always prefer to show each review where possible, even if the review isn't so flattering. It is after all a very subjective opinion as everyone has different hearing abilities and preferred styles. Think of it like wine, you can buy a £100 bottle, but prefer a £6. At the end of the day it's down to taste and taste alone.
